About
Hollywood Maestros grew out of a long-standing love of classic cinema and the music that made it unforgettable. For decades, film scores were treated as background, yet the themes written by composers like Max Steiner, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Alfred Newman and Bernard Herrmann are often what we remember most about the films we love.
This site celebrates those composers. Each piece in our collection is original, retro-inspired artwork built around a film and its score, combining the bold graphic style of mid-century movie posters with imagery drawn from the music itself: orchestras, conductors, instruments and the scenes the music brought to life.
Alongside the art, every composer has a page with a short biography covering their background, their most important scores and their place in film history. Our focus is the Golden Age of Hollywood and the decades that followed, from the first sound films of the early 1930s through the great scores of the 1960s, with a few later favorites along the way.
Hollywood Maestros is part of a family of sites celebrating classic cinema, including HollywoodUSA and Classic Hollywood Posters. Prints of every piece are available through our Retro Art World gallery on Fine Art America.
